Beyond Front@ - Dance Communication LabPublic sharing directed by Liz Kinoshita (CA/BE/SE)SEPTEMBER 13 / 19:00VRÅNGSHOLMEN
On the final day of Dance Communication Lab (DCL) workshop, six participants from across Europe - representing Sweden, Croatia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia and Romania - come together to share the work they have developed with choreographer Liz Kinoshita (CA/BE). This improvised public showing takes place at Vrångsholmen, a historic building now transformed into a creative space. Join us to experience improvisation, movement and artistic ideas born from three days of collaboration and exploration.
DCL is a 3-day-long workshop-exchange organised within Beyond Front@: Bridging Periphery project that focuses on dance improvisation as an important component of the creative process in contemporary dance. DCL at Vitlycke-CPA takes place 25-27 September. The aim of this workshop is to give six professional dancers from Beyond Front@ partner countries the opportunity to get to know each other through dance improvisation. The dancers for this workshop have been selected following an open call, attracting a wide range of talented performers.
The workshop is led by choreographer Liz Kinoshita. Building on Liz Kinoshita’s twenty years of of experience performing in multidisciplinary creations, the DCL workshop focuses on presence, grounded-ness, and the ability to pivot in instant compositional set ups, to surprise oneself through rigorous scores, structures or a ’cage’ to set oneself ’free’. During the workshop, participants have studied principles from artists such as Thomas Hauert, Tino Sehgal, Chrysa Parkinson, Meg Stuart, as well as Liz Kinoshita’s own improvisation. The workshop explores the histories and habits each person carries—consciously or unconsciously—and investigates how these can be deviated from when desired, so that performativity is not presented by default or accident, but emerges as deliberate and responsive.
Dante - Gunilla Heilborn (SE) SEPTEMBER 27 / 18:00VITLYCKE - CENTRE FOR PERFORMING ARTS
Best Dance Performance 2024 from the Svenska Teaterkritikers föreningen
Some people wish the Middle Ages would never end. In her latest production DANTE Gunilla Heilborn takes an unsuccessful trip to Florence as her starting point, where, on her quest to find Dante, she gets lost, not in a dark forest, but amid all the tourists – who, just like her, shuffle along the winding streets of Florence in pursuit of a bygone time. Heilborn takes on the tides of history where everything seeps through and might get lost. Which path should you take again, at that crossroads…
Past and present meet in a highly speculative reading of Dante's eternal questions in a brand new work for three lost souls. Wandering in a constant fog of uncertainty, they find no answers but numerous questions, alternating typical Heilborn humor with seriousness.
DANTE is a piece about indecision and perpetual misadventures. A string of songs, text fragments, sparse dance, and unreliable guides. Like all comedies, DANTE starts very badly but ends well.
Aviva Endean (AU) & Henrik Olsson (SE) - concertSEPTEMBER 27 / 19:00VITLYCKE - CENTRE FOR PERFORMING ARTS
Australian clarinetist and sound artist Aviva Endean and Swedish percussionist Henrik Olsson met for the first time at the Sounds of Sthlm 2023 Festival where both performed their solos. Inspired by each other's worlds of sound, a collaboration began and they have since performed a number of concerts as a duo and released their first album last year on the label FrimRec.
Aviva and Henrik create strong emotional soundscapes far from the musical mainstream, yet the music is direct and engaging, hypnotic and self-evident at the same time.
At HERE:2025 we will hear them perform composed improvisations and improvised compositions for clarinet, pipes, percussion, turntables, cassette tapes and electronics. Don't miss this musical experience with two truly idiosyncratic sound artists living on opposite sides of the world, Wurundjeri in Australia and Bottna, Bohuslän.
